When Growth Happens Beneath the Surface
by Bia Limoli
Every new beginning in life feels like planting a seed.
We hold the seed with hope, we place it in the soil with care, and we water it faithfully. Yet, for a long time, nothing seems to happen. The ground looks the same, the seed remains hidden, and doubts whisper in our minds: “Am I doing something wrong? Will this ever grow?”
This is the painful truth of every restart.
Whether it’s healing after heartbreak, starting a new career, or rebuilding a dream, the early stages often test us the most. We give everything we can, but we see little in return. And because we can’t see progress above the surface, many give up—just as some stop watering their seed before it ever breaks through the soil.
But growth doesn’t start where we can see it.
The seed first needs to build roots, and the roots are invisible above the surface. We look at the soil and see nothing changing, but underneath, life is working hard. The roots are spreading quietly, searching for water, anchoring the seed, and preparing it to withstand storms.
Without strong roots, a tree cannot survive—even if it grows quickly at first, it won’t last. The same happens in our lives: before visible results show up, we need time to strengthen what no one else can see—our resilience, our patience, our self-belief.
When we can’t yet see the results, we must remember that something powerful is happening beneath the surface.
And then, one day, a fragile sprout appears.
The first small sign of life, hope, or change. It’s tender and vulnerable, but it’s proof that our patience has not been in vain. From that sprout, with time, care, and consistency, comes the tree—strong, rooted, and reaching for the sky.
So, if you’re in the middle of a restart, don’t give up watering your seed.
Trust that even when you can’t see it, life is working underground on your behalf. Patience and perseverance are the bridge between the invisible roots and the visible branches.
Your tree is on its way!
